They Gave For You; Will You Give For Them on Poppy Day?On Thursday, May 16th Post 43 will hold its annual “Poppy Day” in the Naperville area. As in the past, all of the proceeds will go to support disabled veterans. But this year Post 43 is doing something special. We have selected a specific program of the American Legion called OPERATION COMFORT WARRIORS to receive 100% of all donations generated through the sale of our Poppies.
Here is what “OPERATION COMFORT WARRIOR” is all about:“This program provides wounded service members with rehabilitation equipment for physical therapy and entertainment in the form of soft clothing, electronics, video games, movies, music and more. 100%-yes, you read that right, but let me repeat-100% of all donations to OCW go to gifts for injured servicemen and women. Check it out @ www.legion.org/ocw.”
This effort by the American Legion has been going on for several years and this year we have elected to use the proceeds of our Poppy sales to support this very special and worthwhile cause. It does not replace the support our wounded men and women receive thru the Veterans Administration. It adds to it by making them more comfortable.
Be a contributor to this special Program; help us sell poppies on May 16th. As in the past we will be at the Naperville, Rt. 59 and the Lisle train stations. But let’s try to do more this year. Got a favorite store or strip mall you would like to cover. See Wayne Fischer for information on how to do it. Can’t work that day? Okay, you can make a donation to Post 43, designated for “Operation Comfort Warriors.” We will combine all of the proceeds raised and send one check to this program. Remember, 100% of all proceeds go to “Operation Comfort Warrior. You won’t get a better opportunity to support our wounded veterans. More details will be forthcoming at our April Post meeting.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2013 NAPERVILLE CITIZEN-OF-THE-YEAR AWARD
American Legion Seeks Nominations From Public
Naperville, January 2013 – American Legion Post No. 43 is requesting nominations from the public for its 2013 Naperville Citizen-of-the-Year Award.
The award recognizes and seeks to encourage service to the Naperville community or to the Nation.
“Community Spirit is part of the strong and dependable core of our great Nation,” said Wayne Fischer, chairman of the Citizen-of-the-Year Award Committee. “Year in and year out, Americans reach out to help each other. We at the American Legion want to acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of local people who reach out locally.”
“As we do each year, we’re asking our fellow citizens to let us know about Napervillians who should be recognized as Citizen-of-the-Year,” continued Fischer. “People who are nominated don’t need to be members of the American Legion. And they don’t need to be Veterans, either.”
Last year, Pamela Davis, Chief Executive Officer of Naperville’s Edward Hospital, received the Citizen-of-the-Year Award for all that she has done to enhance the physical health of our community and the “ethical health” of the state of Illinois.
The American Legion requests that those who submit nominations for the 2013 Award provide a note that identifies the nominee(s) and summarizes their achievements. The note should also indicate the nominator’s name, address and telephone number.
Nominations may be submitted by postal mail to American Legion Post No. 43, P.O. Box 4, Naperville, IL 60566 or by e-mail to Wayne.L.Fischer@gmail.com. The Award Committee requests that all nominations be received by Monday, March 18.
The recipient(s) of the Award will be honored at an American Legion awards dinner on Saturday, April 20 at the VFW Post 3873 here in Naperville.
Wayne Fischer, the Award Committee Chairman, will welcome all questions or comments. He can be reached at 630-240-8868 or at Wayne.L.Fischer@gmail.com.
